Belcher shares insights at CIFOR’s 25th anniversary annual meeting
Bogor, IN
Dr. Brian Belcher participated in the Annual Science Meeting of the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). 2018 marked the year of CIFOR’s 25th anniversary, set on the theme of “Forests Matter”. Belcher ran a session on co-generation of knowledge and presented insights from the Sustainability Research Effectiveness (SRE) Program’s work. In particular, he shared SRE’s approach and lessons learned in planning and evaluating CIFOR research projects. CIFOR indicated they were in the process of adopting the principles from SRE’s transdisciplinary research quality assessment framework for their own research quality criteria. The Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) CGIAR Research Program supports this work.
Over a quarter century, CIFOR built a reputation for innovative research, on-the-ground capacity-building, and meaningful engagement for forests and people. For the 25th anniversary, CIFOR staff and longstanding partners gathered to celebrate their collective contributions to poverty reduction, food security, and biodiversity through forest research. With a focus on rigorous science, capacity-building, stakeholder engagement, and research-for-development, CIFOR is a global leader in tropical forest research. CIFOR’s annual report from 2018 provides more background on the anniversary celebrations and summarizes achievements made over the past twenty-five years.
