Dr. Deborah Zornes

Director of Research Services

Dr. Deborah Zornes works as Director of Research Services at Royal Roads University. Deborah holds a PhD from the University of Victoria on Interdisciplinary Studies.

In her capacity as Director of Research Services, Deborah is responsible for the strategic and operational direction of research. Deborah works with faculty to find research opportunities, assisting the development and submission of proposals and the management and reporting of research activities. Her research interests focus in two areas: 1) the impact of corporatization on the university and the research undertaken/supported and what this means for the role of the university in society; and 2) on the evaluation and measurement of research effectiveness, outcomes, and impact. Deborah’s teaching areas include research methods and communication for learning.

Deborah calls Royal Roads University home, working at the University since 2006. Prior to that, Deborah held a position as Manager of Research Services at Athabasca University for fifteen years. She is the current President for the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA). She is a member of the Tri-Agency Institutional Programs Secretariat’s Advisory Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy; the Tri-Agency Grants Management working group; and the CIHR University Delegates Executive Committee.
