Rachel Claus works as a research assistant with the Sustainability Research Effectiveness Program. She holds a Master of Science in Sustainable Development with a focus in Environmental Governance from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Rachel completed a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria, Canada. Rachel is a Doctoral Candidate at Royal Roads University. She will defend her dissertation in 2026.

As part of a collaborative transdisciplinary research project for her Master’s thesis, Rachel evaluated the extent to which non-governmental organizations and government agencies contributed to the fortification of community-based forestry institutions and livelihoods in rural Andhra Pradesh, India. Rachel’s academic training includes sustainability science principles, common pool resource governance, policy analysis, and theories of policy process. Rachel previously worked for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.
